International treaties and agreements as a variety of diplomatic document: its composition and style.

The aim of the present course work consists in analyzing the composition and style of inte
ational treaties and agreements (as a variety of diplomatic documents).
To achieve the above stated aim we need to reveal and analyze the following issues:
1) definition of inte
ational treaties, agreements and declarations,
2) style and format of inte
ational treaties, agreements and declarations,
3) composition of inte
ational treaties,
4) linguistic means of inte
ational treaties.
The object of the present analysis is an inte
ational treaty and agreement.
The subject of the present research consists in studying the composition and style of inte
ational treaties and agreements.
The structure of the research work. The course work consists of the introduction, two chapters, the conclusion, the list of references and inte
et sources, the appendix.
The methods implied are: synthesis, analysis, comparison.
The hypothesis of the present research work. Inte
ational treaties are specific types of official documents that have their specific features on different levels of their organization: compositional, graphic, lexical and grammatical that together comprise functional and stylistic peculiarities of this type of the document.
The above stated provisions have predetermined the interest for and topical character of this theme. All in all a treaty is a generic term embracing all instruments binding under inte
ational law, regardless of their formal designation, concluded between two or more inte
ational juridical persons or parties. Accordingly, conventions, agreements, protocols and exchanges of letters or notes may all be regarded as treaties.

ational law and is normally in written form. Although the Vienna Convention of 1969 does not apply to non-written agreements, its definition of a treaty states that the absence of written form does not affect the legal force of inte

According to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties ““treaty” means an inte
ational agreement concluded between States in written form and gove
ed by inte
ational law, whether embodied in a single instrument or in two or more related instruments and whatever its particular designation”. The definition was first provided in the document named “Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties”. A treaty has its established form and a definite procedure of adoption, implementation and termination. Inte
ational conventions and agreements are treaties as well. The style of inte
ational treaties is the style of official documents. Most vivid stylistic features are standard, imperative and prescriptive nature, ascertaining as leading method of presentation, precision which does not admit misinterpretation, non-personal character. Most vivid compositional devices of a convention as a variety of diplomatic documents is its patte
ed structure, declarative, ascertaining nature, neglect of narration and discussion.
We have analyzed linguistic means typical to the convention and present in it: graphic means, lexical means and grammatical means:
1) some graphic means specific to inte
ational treaties are present in the text of the convention: means of graphic design (a symbolic picture and use of capital letters) as well as use of graphic delimitation means (lines which demonstrate text limitation) and wide use of different shrifts,
2) some lexical means specific to inte
ational treaties are present in the text of the convention: bureaucratic clichés and set phrases (words or word-combinations), wide use of special terminology to express precision, repetitions, use of constructions with archaic elements (especially in treaties and contracts), wide spread of vocabulary units, expressing obligation, absence of subjective emotional appraisal,
