There is no denying the fact that tourism plays an important role in people’s lives. Many travel on business or for pleasure both within the country or abroad, leaving sums of money for their recreation and work. Many gain from tourism for they work for the industry. Many countries have tourism as a relevant part of currency in-flow. But let us see the cultural and social aspect of the entire interdependence of tourism and inner (local) culture.
Let us compare Belarus and Egypt in this way.
1. Is tourism beneficial for Belarus? For Egypt?
2. Can Belarusians lose their national identity because of tourists’ flows? Can Egyptian Arabs lose their national identity because of tourists’ flows?
3. What can tourists from abroad gain from their tours to Belarus? To Egypt?

There is some conce
that tourism development may lead to destinations losing their cultural identity by catering for the perceived needs of tourists – particularly from inte
ational markets. This is based on the observations of other “destinations” having compromised their sense of identity. However, as we see, most tourists travel not to visit home away from home, but because they want to experience the personality and true character of a different nation, a different way of life. The tourism experience is different to what they can see or do at home and this includes experiencing the real life and lifestyle of the destinations they visit. Sustainable tourism is thoughtful tourism. It is “derived”, not “contrived”.
Development of tourism product does not necessarily require building “tourist things.” Tourism is often structured around existing points of interest, be it natural, heritage, cultural experiences or economic activities.
Tourism development that “leverages” existing attributes often brings a range of benefits to host communities. Improved infrastructure (power, water, and telecommunications), access, services (banks, transport) and new investments, all serve to enhance the lifestyles of communities. Community support will follow developments that service the community and provide ongoing benefits.
Tourism is an interface for cultural exchange, facilitating the interaction between communities and visitors (domestic and inte
ational). Economic benefits aside, outside contact draws attention to the host community. People want to interact with other cultures, lea
about traditions and even confront themselves with new perspectives on life and society.
Tourism can boost the preservation and transmission of cultural and historical traditions. This often contributes to the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, the protection of local heritage, and a revival of indigenous cultures, cultural arts and crafts.
