Introduction

The so-called “Cold War” is period in human history after World War II, which affecting the relations between the United States and The Soviet Union. The Cold War was characterized by mutual distrust, misunderstanding and suspicion by both Soviet Union and the United States. Sometimes, these conditions increased the risk of the third world war. The United States accused the USSR of seeking to expand Communism throughout the world. The USSR, again, charged the United States with practicing imperialism and with attempting to stop revolutionary activity in other countries.
The purpose of present work is to find out the causes of Cold War and positions of countries which took part in this war. Also consider the main events of the period.

The Cold War - the global geopolitical, military, economic and ideological confrontation in 1946-1989 years between the Soviet Union and the Allies - on the one hand and the US and its allies - the other.
It can say about following result of the Cold War:
- The collapse of the socialist camp,
- The collapse of the Soviet Union,
- Termination of the Warsaw Pact,
- The reunification of Germany;
- Enlargement of the EU and NATO.
Despite the fact that the cold war was between the United States and the Soviet Union, it has had an impact on the whole world. For example, Germany was divided into two parts.
