Safe Work Australia was established by the Safe Work Australia Act 2008 [7] with primary responsibility to lead the development of policy to improve work health and safety and workers’ compensation arrangements across Australia. It performs its functions in accordance with Corporate plan and Operational plan agreed annually by the Select Council on Workplace Relations.
Safe Work Australia began operating as an independent Australian Gove
ment statutory agency on 1 November 2009. It is jointly funded by the Commonwealth, state and territory gove
ments through an Intergove
mental Agreement.
As a national policy body Safe Work Australia does not regulate work health and safety laws. The Commonwealth, states and territories retain responsibility for regulating and enforcing work health and safety laws in their jurisdiction [2].
The aim of the present course work consists in analyzing safe work in Australia.
To achieve the above stated aim we need to reveal and analyze the following problems:
1) to characterize safe work in Australia;
2) to describe Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012 -2022.

The Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) leads and coordinates national efforts to prevent workplace deaths, injury and disease in Australia.
The expectation of the Australian Gove
ment and ASCC is that national standards will be suitable for adoption by the Australian, state, and territory gove
ments. Such action will increase uniformity in the regulation of occupational health and safety throughout Australia and contribute to the enhanced efficiency of the Australian economy.
Their primary responsibility is to improve work health and safety and workers’ compensation arrangements across Australia.
The Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012-2022 provides a framework to drive improvements in work health and safety in Australia. It promotes a collaborative approach between the Commonwealth, state and territory gove
ments, industry and unions and other organizations to achieve the vision of healthy, safe and productive working lives.
The Australian Strategy promotes the vision of healthy, safe and productive working lives and sets four outcomes to be achieved by 2022. The purpose of the Australian Strategy is to drive key national activities to achieve improvement in work health and safety. It is aimed at regulators, industry, unions, other organisations and gove
ments that in tu
influence work and workplaces across Australia.
Progress towards the vision will be made through a set of outcomes to be achieved by 2022 which in tu
will be supported through seven Action Areas.
