Inte
ational students who come to the United States may wonder about their American classmates' prior education. Due to its local variations, the American education system appears confusing. In addition, the structure and procedures at American universities differ somewhat from other systems, such as the British model.
The aim of the present work consists in analyzing the educational system in the USA.
To achieve the above stated aim we need to reveal and analyze the following problems:
1) to provide general information on the US educational system;
2) to describe the US educational system.
But unlike in many other countries the U.S. Federal gove
ment contributes almost 10% to the national education budget; education is primarily the responsibility of state and local gove
ment.
Moreover, unlike in many other countries, the United States central gove
ment does not control the educational system. Rather, the higher education systems are either:
1) controlled by independent groups of people, or trustees (in the case of private schools); or
2) shared between local and state gove
ments (in the case of public schools) [1].
A major difference between these two types of schools is the cost. Private schools are generally much more expensive to attend than their public school counterparts, mainly because the private schools must rely on sources outside of the gove
ment for their funding.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Education reviews and recognizes “accrediting agencies” that in tu
ensure the quality of the school and their programs. Most colleges and universities have what is called “regional accreditation” from an agency that oversees that particular part of the country where the school is located. You will want to make sure that the school you choose has accreditation, meaning that it has met specific academic, administrative and financial standards. Accreditation also ensures that your degree will be recognized by other...

Education in the United States follows a patte
similar to that in many systems. Early childhood education is followed by primary school (called elementary school in the United States), middle school, secondary school (called high school in the United States), and then postsecondary (tertiary) education. Postsecondary education includes non-degree programs that lead to certificates and diplomas plus six degree levels: associate, bachelor, first professional, master, advanced intermediate, and research doctorate. The U.S. system does not offer a second or higher doctorate, but does offer postdoctorate research programs. Adult and continuing education, plus special education, cut across all educational levels.
Formal schooling lasts 12 years, until around age 18. Compulsory schooling, though, ends by age 16 in most states; the remaining states require students to attend school until they are 17 or 18. All children in the United States have access to free public schools.
